Children and Angels - How to Open Your Children's Eyes to the Concept of Angels?

Are you a parent and have child?

As an adult, especially when you are a parent to a child, it will be nice to open their minds about angels at a very young age. This is especially true if you have experienced how it's like to be touched by how these kinds of spiritual beings work wonders on people's lives.

Spiritual Beings:

Since the 400s, the theology and facts that surround the idea about these spiritual beings and tutelary spirits have undergone many changes. It is now believed in western churches and on eastern churches as well that these beings are assigned by God to people. Each person has a guardian angel that is assigned to protect them from harm and to save them whenever anything bad happens or surrounds them. Their guardians report back to God how life has been for these people and they offer prayers on your behalf.

Memorial Day for Guardian Angels:

Image via Wikipedia

According to the calendar of saints of the Roman Catholic Church, October 2 is when the memorial for the guardian angels should be celebrated. The belief about God sending each person their guardian can be rooted back at the time of Ancient Greek philosophy. You can also see this kind of concept on the Old Testament, but it was articulated differently.

Young Minds:

You can actually use the concept that these spiritual beings are able to look after each person as your children grow. You can ask them to behave and to be always nice to other people because they are being guided by their protectors. The latter will be sad if they will do anything bad.

Watching movies with your children:

If you are finding it hard to explain the concept, there are many avenues that you can choose to take in this regard. At this day and time, this is a popular subject in various media platforms. You can have your children watch movies that tackle the subject. You just have to make sure that you watch the film before them. This way, if you want to tell any disclaimers, you can do so before they can believe everything that these shows will be able to present.

Be Careful about What You Teach Your Children:

You have to be careful about what you tech your children. Their young minds are able to process everything, even stories which are not really serious, and retain them in their memories for long. You don't want to end up feeling guilty for the wrong stories that you were able to share to them when you hear your children talk these out loud to their friends and acquaintances.

Teach them to Pray:

The good thing about this venture is that you will be able to teach your children the value of prayer at such a young age. You may even research about the guardian angel or Archangel assigned to them based on their birthdates and find the right prayer for those angels. You must tell them that God is the root of it all. God assigns each person their guardian angel to protect and guide them in times of needs.

Prayer for Children when in Trouble:

You will be amazed when you are caught in big mess and trouble and you will hear your kids uttering prayers to their supposed spiritual guide. This is when you will know how effective your words and stories are. You must also allow them to explore on their own.

If they want to find out more about it, you can give them books and other reading materials where they can find out more about the topic.

Angelology - Knowing Your Angels - Study of Angels

Angels in Modern World:

Angels are a popular image in modern culture. A lot of this popularity comes from popular culture: images of kindly messengers running around helping the underprivileged and giving those who've been through dark times a chance at redemption. This image isn't exactly a new one. The Bible has had quite a few angel tales in it. Everyone knows the story of Mother Mary and there's an entire book, Tobias to be specific, in the Old Testament where an angel pretty much sets up a guy for marriage.

Angelology:

But still all those Bible stories are kind of sparse compared to the whole field of literature and study that has sprung up around them. After all, the idea of angels has been around since the Old Testament and quite a few scholars, starting from Jewish tradition in the Biblical times, have taken up the opportunity to study this field of theology, calling it angelology. It might all seem hokey, but they're all pretty passionate about this stuff and it shows in the large amounts of stuff they have managed to come up with from the ancient times onwards. There are actually some pretty active angelologists around.

Angelic theory:

Of course, since angels are kind of hard to find on the ground, much of their ideas of angels come from the Bible and more fanciful sources like the Apocrypha, technically non-official books of the bible, along with more mystical sources like the Kabbala. All of those sources are mixed in with personal theories, assumptions and a few choice bits of folklore. It all seems a bit of a mish-mash of ideas, but like fine wine, the development of angelic theory has pretty much settled down through the ages to a definitive set of beliefs.

Angelic hierarchy:

Medieval Christian theologians pretty much set down the definitive angelic hierarchy. Since they were pretty much enamored by the number three, the holy number of the trinity, these theologians divided the angels into three spheres, basing most of their beliefs from New Testament books like Ephesians and Colossians. Each sphere was then divided into another three sets. The first sphere is composed of the angels seen in the Old Testament: the Seraphim, Cherubim and the Thrones.

These angels worked to guard God's divine throne.

The next sphere were governors of the heaven, making sure everything ran smoothly.

They are divided into the Dominions, the Virtues, and the Powers.

Finally, the last sphere dealt the most with humans, delivering messages to them and guarding them against demons: the Principalities, Archangels, and just plain Angels.

Fourth Lateran Council and the First Vatican Council:

General divisions like these helped systematize the theology behind angels. It was all very serious business back then. Both the Fourth Lateran Council and the First Vatican Council each had definite things to say about angels based on the research of angelologists. Even then, study did not stop of course. Shifting on individual angels, especially the named ones in the Bible were another part of angelology.

Seven Archangels:

Image via Wikipedia

The popular belief in seven Archangels is pretty much one of the results of these studies. The archangels, according to angelologists, were charged with the protection of nations. Also, each had a specific name that could be used to invoke their protection: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Zerachiel and Remiel. Occult imagery has co-opted some of these ideas and usually use them in magical rituals of protection.

Modern mythology:

As you can see, the study of angels can be pretty complicated. A lot of work has been put into it through the years and it's become part of modern mythology. Angels aren't just winged fellows with harps and all of this is proves that.

Angels in Bible - Biblical Facts About Angels

One of the most notable and significant proof about the existence of angels are actually the famous Biblical facts about angels.

• Among the most common questions governing such are the age old questions like What are angels?

• How and why were they created?

• What do angels do?

Since time immemorial, man always held a strong and devoted fascination for angels and similar spiritual beings.

For centuries, many popular and renowned artists have tried to immortalize the image of angels on canvas and murals.

But it would come as a surprise to many once they get to realize that the Bible describes angels invoking a much more different description of angles as with how they are typically and artistically rendered or presented, like cute and cuddly babies with wings and draped in white cloth.

Here are some common Biblical facts about angels.

One may not be aware, but the Bible has made 273 references to angels and although we do not aim to get to each and every one of those descriptions and references, we hope to show some examples that provide proof of angels in the Bible.

The first reference can be found in the first book of the Bible, where everything else started – the Book of Genesis. In the second chapter of Genesis, it mentions ‘Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished’ to which the term ‘host’ refers to the description of God’s spiritual messengers commonly known as angels.

This is also cross – referenced in the first chapter of the new testament book of Colossians where it says ‘For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.’

Image via Wikipedia

The Bible also provided reference to the fact that angels were created to live for eternity, as stated in Luke 20:36 .. nor can they die anymore, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

One proof that angels were present when God created the world can be found in Job 38:1-7 where it says that “Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: ‘...Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? ...while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?"

It is also a fact that angels cannot marry or be betrothed to someone as stated in Matthew 22:30 where it says that ‘A tthe resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.’

Angels are also wise and intelligent, as the Old Testament book of 2nd Samuel 14:17 that says “Your maidservant said, ‘The word of my lord the king will now be comforting; for as the angel of God, so is my lord the king in discerning good and evil. And may the LORD your God be with you.”

Also in Daniel 9:21-22 while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding."

These are just some of the Biblical facts about angels and there are even more similar entries you may find in the Bible, so go ahead read and discover.

Angels as Mystic Messengers - Angels in the Bible

Angels in Bible:

The Bible has a weird schizophrenic way of depicting angels. Sometimes they're bloody dealers of God's vengeance, sometimes they're the divine equivalent of a singing telegram. Well, all of that could probably be chalked up to the fact that God moves in mysterious ways, of course.

Angels in the Old Testament:

Looking for angels in the Bible is pretty easy. Angels show up in the Bible from Genesis onwards, as to be expected from God's favored messengers. The Old Testament has a cornucopia of these angel sightings. Angels of the Lord in the Old Testament were pretty much a mixed bag of encounters.

Abraham, the patriarch of the Jewish nation, had quite a few encounters with angels:

• The angels who were on their way to destroy Sodom and Gommorah passed by his house and he managed to wrangle a deal out of them.

• An angel also stopped him from sacrificing his son Isaac to the Lord on Mount Moriah.

Image via Wikipedia

• Jacob, Abraham's grandson has the dubious honor of wrestling with an angel for an entire night. For his trouble, Jacob got renamed into Israel.

• An angel was next mentioned as the cause of the death of Egypt's first-born during the era of Moses' Exodus.

• The pillar of fire that guarded and guided the Israelites when they left Egypt has also been often interpreted as an angel.

Angelic intervention for the Israelites pretty much continues through the Old Testament. Several prophets like Ezekiel and Daniel recorded their encounters with them. An interesting fact is that Daniel is supposed to be the person who has had most contact with angels in the Old Testament, having been saved twice by them(Angels). An angel is also the main character of the Book of Tobias, where the angel Raphael goes out and pretty much does the Hollywood angel thing about a two thousand five hundred years early: he fixes the lives of Tobias, Tobit and Sarah, making everyone live happily ever after.

Angels in New Testament:

The New Testament isn't empty of angels either. Actually, the entire thing starts with an angel announcing someone was going to be born.

• In Luke's version, the message is to Zacharias, telling him that his son, John the Baptist was to be born.

• Later, Mary gets some happy news of her own.

• Joseph, Mary's husband encountered angels himself. Three times to be exact - the first, to convince him of his marriage; the second, a warning for him and his family to leave Egypt, and the last, to return to Israel.

And, of course, how can we forget all of the angels appearing in several versions of the Nativity.

Angels also appeared through out Jesus' life. When he went into the desert to be tempted by the Devil, angels provided him with comfort and nourishment. An angel was waiting for the women at his tomb on the third day, telling them about his resurrection.

Angels also continually appeared after Jesus' ascension into heaven, providing his disciples with the occasional help. It should also be noted that the foundations of modern Angelology is partially based on the apostle Paul's letters to the Ephesians and the Colossians. And let's not forget about all of the angels showing up in the book of Revelations.

To know more about Angels:

Angels can be seen through out the Bible doing God's work and it's all pretty impressive. So if you want to know any more about them, no need for all of those fancy angel books. Just open that old Bible and read.
